NEW for 2008: Craft Classes!
You asked for it and we heard you! Paula Radke and Cindy Brown will lead craft classes in jewelry making and bead work. We are also working on card making and paper arts, knitting and a surprise craft as a special Camp keepsake. Classes will all be FREE and will be hold in the Main Floor craft area. On-your-own crafting will be open every day 9 am - 11 pm.
Paula Radke, Paula Radke Dichroics: Crafts Director
www.PaulaRadke.com
Ever since the fourth grade, Morro Bay resident Paula Radke knew she was going to make her living as an artist.
"When I grew up way back when," she said, "we had art in every grade of school from kindergarten on through high school, really wonderful art programs. I remember fourth grade art was when I came alive. I knew that that would be it for me. I always had a passion for jewelry, playing in mom's jewelry box, so I think beads were a natural for me, just the combining of the glass and the jewelry."
After dabbling in a wide variety of artistic mediums, including printmaking, silver casting and pottery, she discovered that glasswork was her passion. Utilizing a "Dichroic" process, she is able to create remarkable glass beads that change colors when viewed from different angles. "Dichroic glass is just a very special material, the way it changes with the light and it's just flashy and pretty," she said. "It's Unique and beautiful."
Radke now has her products in nearly 1,000 outlets, including jewelry designers and craft stores such as A.C. Moores, and Michaels. "Because of the internet, I have accounts all over the world," she said. "I just recently sent some glass pieces to a glass museum in Kobe, Japan." And it all starts in her little shop in Morro Bay.
Cindy Brown, Cindybeads: Craft Classes
www.Cindybeads.com
Early in 1992 I saw my first lampwork beads while vacationing in Arizona. The world stood still when I realized they were made by hand....one at a time! Could it be that I could learn to do such a thing? Play with FIRE? After purchasing a few beads, I decided to give this amazing process a try so that I could individualize the jewelry I had just started making. Finding a teacher was my next order of business (not as simple in '92 as it is these days!). To make a long story short, I ended up purchasing a torch, some glass and Lewis Wilson's first video and just took off from there! I've been happily making "Cindybeads" ever since! While I still continue to make and sell a little jewelry, there is nothing like "melting" to fill my days with happiness!
Cindy is a founder of the HOPE Bracelet Project that donates bead bracelet sales to Project Mercy in
Yetebon, Ethiopia. For more HOPE Bracelet information, visit www.Cindybeads.com

Karen Quinn Catching Your Breath
Thursday, September 18th, 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm
www.roadwarrioryoga.com
Karen enjoyed a life of adventure with her husband and children: sailing, diving, and traveling. The adventure changed when an engine failure forced her husband, a helicopter pilot for a Denver television station, to land in the icy waters of a Colorado reservoir. His month long coma resulted in severe head injury and confined him to a wheelchair for the remaining four years of his life.
Her on-the-job training as a caretaker, single parent and patient advocate began in an instant. Realizing that the allopathic health care system was limited in it’s ability to help, she began to explore more deeply the relationship between healing, breath, movement and spirit. After her husband’s death in 1995, she continued her study of these essential connections and added the study of yoga to her training in reflexology, jin shin and anatomy. Karen discovered the depth of the yoga practice as she delved into the ancient insight that unites body, breath, emotions and the deep wisdom that is held in all beings. Focusing on the damaging effects of stress, she created a presentation to share the tools that we all possess to change our reactions to the stressors in our lives.
In 1999, Karen became a certified yoga teacher and has continued her training to become a certified yoga therapist. She is registered with the Yoga Alliance as a ryt-500, the most experienced teacher qualification possible. She works with individuals to recover from injury and chronic illness using a combination of movement, breath and inner awareness. She is also the director and lead instructor for Rishis Crossing Yoga Teacher training program. Her latest DVD, Road Warrior Yoga, provides a therapeutic movement series that promotes wellness and balance.

Kim Oliva, Progressive Health Center: Yoga
Thursday, September 18th, 2:15 pm - 3:15 pm & 4:45 pm - 5:45 pm
www.ProgressiveHealthCenter.org
Kim Oliva, a yoga teacher is certified to teach both children and adults. She is the proud mother of two boys, Morgan, age eight and Mason, age three. Prior to becoming certified, Kim practiced yoga for 15 years and was always trying to find ways to bring more balance to her life. She had a successful career at Nordstrom merchandising, buying and most recently a store manager for 19 years. During each one of her pregnancies, yoga remained in Kim’s daily practice until the day each of them were born. As time went on Kim started to notice physical changes such as shortness of breathe, food allergies and an over all increase in stress.
Kim decided to retire from Nordstrom and find a way to give back to the world. One can’t eliminate stress from our lives but we can teach our children how to become aware of the breath, to take the time for one to quiet the crazy “monkey” mind and find ways to become more intuitive. Kim received her B.A. in Communications from the University of Colorado in 1991. In 2007, she studied and trained with Karen Quinn at Rishis Crossing, receiving her Yoga Alliance Certification. She also received her certification with Abby Wills with Yoga Ed. providing certification to teach a K-8 curriculum and Tools for Teachers in the classroom as a piece for professional development. She has recently created an after-school program at Highland Elementary in Centennial entitled, “Mind, Body & Fun,” using the curriculum from Yoga Ed. Kim also teaches for The Wellness Initiative at Brown Elementary in Denver. She also teaches Family Yoga classes at Progressive Health Center and Gentle Restorative class at the Denver Athletic Club.
